Message from COTA President Rick Lofgren

Dear Friend,

As we ring in the New Year, I pause to recognize the work of thousands of COTA Miracle Makers who volunteer their time and resources, and to acknowledge the donors whose support we receive on behalf of our transplant families.  Over the past twelve months, COTA’s volunteers, transplant professionals and donors nationwide have helped more than 150 new COTA families witness a miracle … a second chance at life for their child or young adult.  COTA’s Miracle Makers are giving hope to these families and to the many others we are working with who are still waiting for the call.

Do you ever wonder how your support is making a difference?  Please allow me to share this note from COTA parents whose son had a successful liver transplant when he was just eight-months-old: 

“Despite having insurance that covered most of Jonathan’s medical expenses, we were facing thousands and thousands of dollars in uncovered medical bills.  This is when we reached out to COTA for help and for hope.  With COTA, we are very hopeful that Jonathan will grow up to make a positive difference in the world.”

What a pleasure it is when I read comments from parents, like Bill and Amber, who are able to experience a miracle -- thanks to friends, volunteers, professionals, and committed volunteers like you who allow COTA to continue offering our families a vast array of support -- at no cost.  If you are like me and are using these days to make your 2012 charitable plan of action, please consider renewing your support as a Miracle Maker by earmarking a portion of your gifts to COTA. And please consider volunteering for a COTA fundraising campaign in your area.
