Message from COTA President Rick Lofgren
Dear Friend,
As the crisp winds begin to blow, and the crimson colors of autumn begin to blanket the countryside, I am reminded of nature’s beauty and the bounty many of us enjoy each day. Thank you for your ongoing willingness to help share what you have with others in an effort to ensure that children and young adults receive a second chance at life –- and a chance to enjoy a beautiful fall day.
Giving Hope ... Making Miracles. At the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA), this is not just a ‘slogan’ -- it is the guiding vision that directs our daily work with our families. To demonstrate how COTA’s team of professionals helps to give hope and make miracles, please allow me to share with you an excerpt of a letter written by the dad of one of our bone marrow transplant children:
"Just like any other father, I have a deep desire and need to provide for my family -- no matter what the circumstance. When the expenses started to add up for our son’s bone marrow donor search, I truly didn’t know how I was going to be able to provide for my family. COTA enabled the generosity, the prayers, and the loving gifts of family and friends to lift us up and to offer financial relief during this time of great need."
Steven González, Sr.
What a pleasure it is when I read notes like the one above from a parent who is able to enjoy miracles in his son’s life -- thanks to friends, volunteers, professionals, and Miracle Makers like you. During the past 22 years, COTA has assisted nearly 1,300 patients and has helped raise nearly $50 million for their transplant-related expenses. With your help, COTA continues to make a significant difference in the lives of our patients, like Steven who is noted above.
COTA is committed to making this journey with each of our families -- families who desperately need hope ... and who sometimes receive a miracle. Thanks for choosing to make the journey with COTA, with our patients and with their families. Your support is truly life-saving.
